インターナショナル山の手幼稚園（IYK）では、子ども達が将来、世界を相手に活躍するためには英語が便利なツールであるという考えに基づき、英語教育に力を入れています。幼稚園に通う子ども達の発達段階に最もあった、楽しい英語レッスンを展開しています。

IYK English education is based on the idea that English is a useful tool for communicating with people from other countries.To achieve this goal, we are creating our English lessons to be the most effective at the kindergarten level.

Ears for English!

英語を聞き取る耳は今つくる！

The sounds of English and Japanese have a different range of pitch.
English has a much wider pitch than Japanese. Therefore, ears that are used to hearing only Japanese sounds cannot distinguish English sounds very well.
The ears of young children are not yet even accustomed to Japanese sounds, so they are still free to learn and recognize new sounds.
IYK thinks it’s very important for children to develop an ear for English at an early age.

最近よく話題になりますが、日本語と英語では発せられる音の周波数に大きな違いがあります。英語で使われる周波数のほうが、日本語のそれよりかなり広いのです。つまり、英語を聞く場合、日ごろ聞きなれない周波数の音にも耳を研ぎ澄ましていなければならないので、日本語の音に慣れきってしまっている大人の耳には、なかなか定着しづらいようです。

幼稚園の子ども達は、日本語も完全には習得しきっていない状態なので、新しい音に柔軟に対応できます。IYKでは、幼児期に英語を聞き取ることのできる耳をつくることがとても大切だと考えています。

英語の音に 楽しく触れる機会を
持つことが大切！

It’s important to
enjoy learning English!

言葉は勉強を始めたその日から話せるようになるものではありません。楽しく学習を続けてこそ話せるようになる日がくるのです。子どもは遊びが大好きです。そして、心から楽しいと思ったらとことん集中します。ですから、IYKの英語レッスンは楽しいことが大前提です。

子どもが英語で楽しいときを過ごすことが目標です。そして、たくさんの英語に触れるうちに自然に英語を話すときが来るのです。IYKでは、ずっとおとなしかった子どもが、ある日突然英語を声に出して発音するようになる姿がよくみられます。

Children love to play and are able to concentrate more on things they are interested in. So we make our lessons FUN! We want children to have fun with English.

Unconsciously, they listen to a lot of English sounds, and only after having listened to enough, will they begin to speak out!
There are numbers of children at IYK who were very quiet at first, but then after sometime, they become able to speak out with confidence.

Team Teaching

IYK English Lessons are team taught by Canadian，Newzealander，and Japanese English teachers. Rabbit Class (2 year-olds/3 days a week), has a 20min. English lesson once a week, while kindergarten classes go for 30 to 40min. lesson 1 or 2 times a week. According to the monthly themes, children enjoy English through singing, moving their body, playing games and so on.

The very important thing is to extend the English lesson by creating more chances for children to use English outside of the lesson. Homeroom teachers are using English words and phrases taught in the lessons, and this is a big factor in helping children further apply their knowledge in practical situations. During play time, English teachers are with the children providing another good opportunity for them to hear English.

All of these things are practiced at IYK according to the curriculum.

IYKの英語のレッスンは、ティームティーチングによって行われています。ラビットクラス（週３日の２歳児クラス）では20分ほどで週に１回、年少・中・長組では30分から40分ほどのレッスンが週に１回から２回あります。毎月のレッスンテーマに沿って、体を動かしたり、歌を歌ったりと、様々な楽しいゲームを英語で楽しんでいます。

また、IYK英語レッスンで大切なことの一つに、ホームルームティーチャーのバックアップがあります。レッスンの中で取り上げた英語の単語やフレーズを、レッスン以外の教育の場でホームルームティーチャーが積極的に使うことによって、大きな定着効果が生まれます。その他、自由時間に英語教師と一緒に遊ぶことによって、子ども達はより自然なかたちで英語に触れることができます。

これらは、全て園独自のカリキュラムに従って実践されています。
