「自立」の第一歩
暖かい日差しに誘われ、自然界の強い息吹が感じられる季節になりました。いよいよ新学年のスタートです。新入園のかわいい年少組さん、期待が高まる年中組さん、そしてやる気に満ち溢れている年長組さん、ご入園・ご進級おめでとうございます。楽しいこといっぱいのインターナショナル山の手幼稚園で、たくさんお友達をつくり、先生と仲良しになって、色々なことを身に付け、心を膨らませていきましょう。
さて４月は、お子さまにとっても、そしてご父母さまにとっても、新しいことへの緊張、生活の流れが落ち着かない心せわしい月になるでしょう。特に新入園のお母さまは、「トイレに行けたかしら？」「友達と仲良くしているかしら？」「泣いていないかしら？」と不安な面持ちでお子さまの降園を待っている方もいらっしゃるかもしれません。
お腹の中にいる時からいつも一緒に行動し、成長のすべてを見守ってきたお子さまは、今、様々な刺激を受け、自分で育っていこうとする「自立」の第一歩を迎えようとしています。お子さまに対しての限りない愛は、ともすると自分の手元に引き止めておきたいという欲求から、過保護になったり、過干渉になってしまいがちです。どうぞお父さま、お母さま、お子さまを一人の自立していく人間として大きな愛で包んであげてください。「一緒にいたい」「幼稚園に行きたくない」、そんな言葉が聞こえるかもしれませんが、お父さま、お母さまの大きな愛があれば、お子さまは環境に適応し、友達の存在を意識し、幼稚園での生活を楽しむことができます。そしてその中でお子さまは豊かな才能の目を開花させ、創造性を発揮していくことでしょう。笑顔の「いってらっしゃい」と「おかえりギュー」の抱っこは、お子さまの安心材料であり、元気の源です。帰宅の際は、たくさんスキンシップをとって、お子さまの気持ちを受け止めてあげてくださいね。
新入園のお子さまにとって生まれてはじめての「集団教育の場～幼稚園」。家庭中心で過ごしてきたお子さまたちが、成長とともに学校、地域、社会へと生活の場を広げていく人生の過程において、幼稚園はその第一歩目になります。そして幼稚園はまた「学校教育」という側面をもっておりますので、一人ひとりのお子さまの「人間形成」を援助し、さらには生まれもった素晴らしい可能性を個性豊かにはぐくみ・培い・伸ばす「教育の営み」を行っていく場です。インターナショナル山の手幼稚園では教職員一同、お子さまの人間
形成の基礎を培う重要な幼児期に大切なお子さまをお預かりする、という責任を重く受け止め、さらに学校教育の役割を踏まえ、一人ひとりのお子さまの日々の生活が楽しく、意欲的に湧き上がる教育活動プログラムをしっかりと実践してまいります。
今年度は、一輪車・竹馬･縄跳び・合奏のグループ活動(年長組)、All Englishのお泊り会(年中･年長イマージョン) 、文字かずやphonics活動の充実(全学年)など、お子さまの興味･関心を広げ、「学力教育（Scholastic Ability）」にさらに力を入れていきたいと考えております。ご父母の皆さま方、どうぞ温かく力強いご支援とご協力をよろしくお願いいたします。
April can be a month of many changes, for parents and children alike. Junior class mothers can be especially anxious, wondering things like “Did they have a chance to use the toilet? Are they getting along with others? Are they crying a lot?” as they wait for their child to come home each afternoon.
The children have taken their first step towards independence, no longer doing everything together and growing with their mother, and going through a lot of new experiences. It marks a step away from the protective environment they shared with their mothers since the time in the womb. It marks a change from always having the children by your side, where you can watch them easily, to seeing them go, and having to worry about them from afar. Mothers and fathers, please smother your children with affection. They may say things like “I want to stay with you!” or “I don’t want to go to kindergarten!”. But with the proper amount of affection, they can adjust to new environments well, acknowledge their friends, and enjoy their time at the kindergarten more. As a result, their strengths will begin to bloom, and they can begin harnessing their creativity. The smile and hugs you give them with a warm “Welcome home!” at the end of the day is the base for making them feel safe, and a resource for keeping the children happy. Take the time when the children come home to have lots of physical contact, and help them feel at ease.
For new students, this marks their first experience in organized education. It is the first major step from passing the day at home to acquiring a better understanding of daily life, society, and more. Kindergarten also carries the qualities of “school education”, and allows for the children to receive support unique to their growth. It is also a place where a child’s individuality and personality can be “supported, cultivated, and increased” by the “management of education”. All of the teachers at our kindergarten strive to follow an educational plan that allows them to meet the needs of each individual child, while at the same time providing an enjoyable learning environment.
This year we are hoping to incorporate groups into the senior class, focusing on unicycles, stilts, jump rope, and musical performance. There will be a new All-English overnight stay for Immersion intermediates and seniors. Numbers and letters, as well as phonics across all grades, will be improved. More effort than before will be placed in expanding the children’s “Scholastic Ability”. We ask for your assistance and understanding in helping us to reach these goals this year.
