Today’s ICEC was about New Zealand culture and craft. First, we learned about New Zealand slang and how it differs from other forms of English. Next, Maori culture was introduced through the Haka a traditional Maori challenge performed before battle of at formal occasions. This led to Poi craft which is used in traditional Maori dance. Everyone had a great time making them and we were able to use them in a dance towards the end of the lesson. Finally the benefits of Manuka Honey was introduced and everyone had a chance to sample it first hand. Once again thank you to everyone that was able to come and I hope I can teach more about New Zealand in the future.
